Reading Green Park station was set to open in 2020 but its completion has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. The work is now expected to be complete in late spring or early summer 2021, with opening taking place in summer 2021 following a testing phase.

The scheme is being progressed by Reading Borough Council (Councillor Tony Page, Lead Councillor for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport) and West Berkshire Council in partnership with Network Rail, which will own the station, and Great Western Railway, which will operate the station and provide the rail services.
