The station would serve the communities of Coalpit Heath, Frampton Cotterell, Winterbourne and Winterbourne Down, and would be a calling point on the route from Bristol Temple Meads to Yate, operated by Great Western Railway.

The site of the original station is now occupied by Ram Hill Business Park, where access is restricted. If there is sufficient demand for a new Coalpit Heath station, perhaps a better location would be to the west, on Badminton Road (the A432, the orange road on the map) where access is easier and there seems to be ample space for a car park.
